What Sets Us Apart

The difference between a 25-year deck and a 7-year deck.

Most homeowners don't see what's underneath their deck — but it's the difference between a deck that lasts a generation and one that needs replacing in under a decade. Here's what we do that others skip.

Foundations

Real footings, not deck blocks.

We pour 2'x2'x6" concrete footings with 8" or 10" sonotube columns. "Do-it-yourself" deck blocks are only used when specifically requested — they shift, they sink, and they fail code in most municipal inspections.

Framing

Pressure-treated hemlock structure.

Every deck we build is framed with pressure-treated hemlock. Rot-resistant, structurally sound, and built to handle Vancouver Island's wet winters without compromise.

Decking

#1 grade cedar, pressure-treated, or composite.

We don't use pine or fir — they rot fast and look tired within a few seasons. You choose between #1 grade cedar (2x4 or 2x6), pressure-treated round-edge boards, or premium composite like TREX.

Finishing

DekSmart railings. Roof-grade vinyl. Done right.

We install DekSmart aluminum railings, roof-grade vinyl decking for waterproof surfaces, hidden fasteners, integrated step lighting, and proper flashing. Bring us a sketch, a Pinterest board, or just an idea — we'll build it.

Decking Materials

Four options. All built to last.

Premium

#1 Grade Cedar

Natural beauty, weather-resistant, ages gracefully to a silver-grey patina. Available in 2x4 or 2x6. The classic West Coast choice.

Workhorse

Pressure-Treated

Round-edge pressure-treated boards. Maximum durability, lower cost, and a long service life when properly maintained.

Maintenance-Free

TimberTech Composite

Won't splinter, fade, or rot. No annual staining. TimberTech's premium composite is the best choice for low-maintenance living.

Waterproof

Roof-Grade Vinyl

Fully waterproof membrane decking — ideal when there's living space, storage, or another deck below. Seamless and built for Vancouver Island weather.

A note on materials we don't use: Pine and fir tend to rot quickly in our climate. We don't sell decks that won't last — period. If you've been quoted on these materials elsewhere, ask why.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

How much does a custom deck cost in Victoria?

Cost depends on size, material, height off the ground, and finishing details (lighting, railings, etc.). A simple ground-level pressure-treated deck typically starts in the low-to-mid five figures, while a multi-level cedar or composite deck with custom features can run higher. We provide a detailed written estimate at no charge so there are no surprises.

Do I need a permit to build a deck?

In most cases, yes — especially if the deck is above a certain height or attached to your house. We handle permitting with your municipality (Sidney, Saanich, Victoria, etc.) as part of the build process where required.

How long does a deck build take?

Most residential decks take 1–3 weeks from start to finish, depending on size and complexity. Custom features like integrated lighting, glass railings, or multi-level structures may take longer. We'll give you a clear timeline with your written estimate.

What's the best decking material for Vancouver Island?

It depends on your priorities. Cedar looks beautiful and is naturally weather-resistant but requires periodic maintenance. Pressure-treated is the best value for durability. TimberTech composite is virtually maintenance-free and lasts decades. For decks over living space or storage, we install roof-grade vinyl for a fully waterproof surface. We'll walk you through the trade-offs honestly.

Are you insured and accredited?

Yes — we carry full liability insurance and WCB coverage. We've been BBB Accredited since 1995 with an A+ rating. Proof of coverage available on request.
